NBA -- Kings top Pelicans, score rare road win, 102-97

PhilBoxing.com

CHICAGO -- For a team with a modest 26-48 record, road wins are hard to come by for the Sacramento Kings this season.

But center DeMarcus Cousins made sure that Monday night at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans would be one of those rare nights.

The hulking 6-foot-11, 270-pound Cousins bullied his way to 35 points and 14 rebounds and the Kings beat the Pelicans, 102-97. Ray MaCallum and Rudy Gay chipped in 22 points apiece for Sacramento, which shot 47.5 percent from the field (38-of-80).

McCallum made the most of his time as starting point guard in place of the injured Isaiah Thomas. McCallum made 9-of-19 shots and dished 10 assists to secure Sacramento's 11th road victory in 38 attempts..

"Today was his day, what more can you ask of him? This is a guy that was on the bench to start the season and now he's starting and contributing and really playing with energy," Gay told NBA.com after the game.

Anthony Morrow was the main man for the Pelicans with 23. Anthony Davis settled with 22 and eight boards and Tyreke Evans had 15.

After winning five straight, New Orleans dropped two in a row and fell to 32-42 for the season. (Homer D. Sayson)
