JR MAGBOO TKOs RAMONAL, CAPTURES PHILIPPINE JUNIOR FEATHER TITLE

PhilBoxing.com

JR Magboo of the Touch Gloves Boxing Stable became the new Philippine junior featherweight champion (122 lbs.) following an 8th round TKO win over defending champion Jhuriel Ramonal of the Jaro Stable in last Saturday night?s main event of the card presented by Saved by the Bell Promotions at the Agoncillo Sports Complex, Agoncillo Batangas.

With his victory, the still unbeaten Magboo established himself as another fighter to watch and became the second member in the family to hold a title following his older brother Nino who previously held the WBO Oriental super-bantamweight and WBO Asia-Pacific bantamweight titles. His belt is also the first Philippine title for Promoter Elmer Anuran?s Touch Gloves Boxing Stable.

In the bout, Magboo controlled most of the action with his masterful ring generalship and precision punching. From the outset, he was peppering Ramonal with a variety of punches. Ramonal somehow displayed a granite chin, at least, for several rounds, and kept coming forward to apply heavy pressure on Magboo occasionally scoring wicked punches to the body. In the 8th round, with both boxers tiring, the bloodied Ramonal finally went down from a Magboo hook and it was apparent that the accumulated beating from the previous rounds had finally took its toll on the latter. A Magboo left straight to the midsection sent Ramonal crashing to the canvas for the second time. Another body punch floored Ramonal and Referee Sammy Bernabe believed he had seen enough and stopped the bout at 2:30 of the 8th round for a Magboo TKO win.

Magboo wins.

In the supporting main event, Lolito Sonsona scored a TKO win over Bobby Concepcion in their 10-round super-flyweight bout when the latter failed to answer the bell for the 7th round after surprisingly twisting his right foot at the break of the 6th and suffered major cramps. Though Sonsona appeared to be having the edge, the bout was fairly competitive while it lasted..

Summarizing the results of the other bouts:

Renren Tesorio defeated J.C. Francisco via a UD by the closest of margin (95-94, 95-94, 96-94) in a highly competitive bout that was ultimately decided by a point deduction on Francisco in the 9th round due to a cut on Tesorio arising from an accidental headbutt.

Wilbur Andogan defeated Oliver Gregorio via a 2nd round TKO (2:22) in their minimum-weight 10-round bout. A right hook by Andogan downed Gregorio in the 2nd round from which the latter failed to recover prompting Referee Virgilio Garcia to waive the fight when Gregorio could no longer defend himself following the knockdown.

Renerio Arizala kept his unbeaten record intact after he defeated the durable Ruther del Castillo via a UD (97-92, 98-91, and 99-90) in their 10-round flyweight bout. Arizala scored the only knockdown of the fight when right cross sent del Castillo to the canvas early in the 10th round.

Rowell Rosia defeated Ruben Traza via a 5th round TKO (59 secs.) in their 8-round flyweight bout.

Menard Abila defeated Lowell Saguisa via a UD (76-75, 76-75, 77-74) in a highly competitive 8-round fight where the knockdown scored by Abila in the 2nd round proved to be the deciding factor in the scorecards.

Ryan Medez emerged the winner over Jay-ar Diama via a split decision (38-37 twice for Medez and 39-36 for Diama) in their 4-round flyweight bout. Diama scored a knockdown in the first round but and his lack of activity in the succeeding rounds allowed Medez to regain his confidence and get back into the fight.

Dafi Dimpo defeated Valeriano Gabriel via a 1st round TKO (37 secs.) in their 4-round lightweight bout.

Edsil Jungco out-boxed Mike Rosal to defeat the latter via a UD (40-36, 39-37, 39-37, 39-37) in their 4-round lightweight fight.

The event was promoted by Elmer Anuran of the Saved by the Bell Promotions with the sponsorship of Agoncillo town officials headed by Mayor Daniel Reyes, Vice Mayor Domeng Encarnacion and the Sangguniang Bayan Members.
