The unassuming and shy Nietes will finally get a chance to fight for the vacant WBO Asia-Pacific miniflyweight title againt No. 2 challenger Heri Amol of Indonesia on Friday, Nov. 24, 2006 at the Mandaue Sports Complex. Since turning pro in the year 2003, the amiable Ilonggo from Bacolod City has racked up an impressive 18-1-3 win-loss-draw fight record with 10 KOs. Nietes only solitary loss came at the hands of power-punching, Angky Angkota who last fought highly-regarded AJ Banal. He lost by a close decision in Jakarta, Indonesa but earned the respect of the hometown hero. The stylish Nietes counts among his prominent victims the likes of IBF world rated Julius Alcos, Roberto Rubillar, Indonesian Champion Martii Poli, Ricardo Albia and Elmer Muyco. In view of his impressive fight record, the 24-year old Nietes has earned local and international recognition which attributes to his No. 1 rating in the Philippines as well as in the WBO Asia-Pacific. He is also recognized by the IBF which has rated him as world No. 5 contender. ?Nietes is the most underrated ALA boxer but has a world class potential.
