'AHAS' NIETES VIES FOR WBO ASIA-PACIFIC MINIFLY CROWN ON NOV. 24

PhilBoxing.com

They call him ?AHAS? or ?SNAKEMAN? and unlike any of the other boxers, the Cebu-based Ilonggo, Donnie Nietes, trains alongside his 20-feet pet python.

The unassuming and shy Nietes will finally get a chance to fight for the vacant WBO Asia-Pacific miniflyweight title againt No. 2 challenger Heri Amol of Indonesia on Friday, Nov. 24, 2006 at the Mandaue Sports Complex.

Since turning pro in the year 2003, the amiable Ilonggo from Bacolod City has racked up an impressive 18-1-3 win-loss-draw fight record with 10 KOs.

Nietes only solitary loss came at the hands of power-punching, Angky Angkota who last fought highly-regarded AJ Banal. He lost by a close decision in Jakarta, Indonesa but earned the respect of the hometown hero.

The stylish Nietes counts among his prominent victims the likes of IBF world rated Julius Alcos, Roberto Rubillar, Indonesian Champion Martii Poli, Ricardo Albia and Elmer Muyco.

In view of his impressive fight record, the 24-year old Nietes has earned local and international recognition which attributes to his No. 1 rating in the Philippines as well as in the WBO Asia-Pacific. He is also recognized by the IBF which has rated him as world No. 5 contender.

?Nietes is the most underrated ALA boxer but has a world class potential. You will see another rising star when Nietes fights Indonesian champion Heri Amol because it is evenly match-up,? said international promoter, Sammy Gello-ani.

New boxing sensation and one of Cebu?s upcoming stalwarts, Milan ?Milenyo? Melindo will once again display his vaunted power when he collides with Rommel Bongon of Manila in one of the supporting bouts.

In his last fight, the scrappy Milan of Cagayan de Oro gained a lot of followers when he annihilated Ricardo Albia wih a one-punch knockout.

In another stellar attraction, one of Bohol?s pride, Along Denoy of the ALA stable squares off with upcoming Aljun Salogaol of Jaca stable in a 10-round contest.

The 70-round card of promoter Gello-ani is another guaranteed bell-to-bell action promotion.

Tickets are now available at ALA Fight Club at the Banilad Town Center and USA Sports outlets in SM and Ayala with reasonable prices at P500 ? VIP/ Sponsor, P300 ? Ringside, P200 ? Lower Seat, and P 100 ? General Admission.
