Boxing Results from LA on League of Champions Tour
By Jonathan Davis PhilBoxing.com Mon, 12 Mar 2012
The first edition of the League of Champions Tour dubbed, "The Revolution of Boxing - the right to fight" reeled off last night at the Los Angeles Theatre Center at Spring Street in downtown LA before a full house crowd. The League of Champions Commissioner, Simon Herrera and Promoter, George Karambelas presented a triple bill of 4-rounders in its inaugural show.
In the first bout, debuting welterweights Robert Guzman of Riverside, CA and Victor Altamirano of Marina Valley gave the crowd an explosive display of non-stop, albeit, raw aggression from start to finish, with Robert Guzman taking a unanimous decision win with scores of 40-36 across the board. In the second fight, Lightweight Oscar Diaz of Oxnard, CA made short work of Angel Torres of San Diego, CA with a 3rd round TKO. Both fighters had swapped knockdowns in the torrid 1st round. Torres scored the first knockdown near the 1 minute mark when he bombed Oscar Diaz and whose imminent fall was just supported by the ropes, thus getting a mandatory count from Referee Danny Sandoval. Going for the kill, Angel Torres then went for broke, fired all his artillery, unmindful of defense, and soon got decked with a perfectly timed counterpunch. The momentum changed in Oscar Diaz' favor after that until the fateful 3rd round stoppage. The third and final bout saw LA lightweight prospect, Kevin Hoskins improve his record to 6-0, 4 KOs, after scoring a unanimous decision victory, 40-34, 40-34, and 38-36 over Juan Suazo of Tuczon, Arizona. Kevin Hoskins knocked his opponent down in rounds 1 and 2 but just couldn't put away the stubborn Suazo, who kept returning fire until the final bell despite being outgunned.
The successful premiere of The League of Champions Tour has been sanctioned by the California State Athletic Commission, supervised in this event by Lead Inspector, Sid Segovia.
