Concepcion, Condes, Victorious in Albay By Salvador Lopez PhilBoxing.com Tue, 27 Jun 2006 Aljoe Jaro prot?g?s, PABA Bantamweight Champion Bernabe Concepcion and Philippine Straw-Weight Champion Florante Condes fashioned out yet another impressive victories en route to their quest to challenge the world’s best in the near future. The two talents were featured in last night’s Oyangi Boxing Festival held at the Salceda Sports Complex in the southern town of Polangi, Albay. In the main event of the evening, fought at the featherweight limit, the heavy fisted Concepcion made short work of the veteran Jojo Arnado when he flattened the latter in 2:55 secs. of the very first round. A left cross to the body followed by a right straight to the face did the damage, immediately dropping Arnado face down. Concepcion is being eyed as a possible replacement to Rey “Boom Boom” Bautista to face Mexican Alejandro Felix Montiel in the undercard of this Sunday’s blockbuster Mano a Mano boxing event should the emerging superstar from Bohol be ineligible to fight. Bautista was reportedly suffering from high fever and heavy coughing last Sunday that he was rushed to the Cebu Memorial Hospital for a check on his condition. It is not yet clear to date whether he would be cleared to fight this coming Sunday. In another featured fight, Florante Condes proved once more how potent a puncher he is when he knocked out Jun Eballe in the fourth round. The first two rounds were uneventful with Eballe landing some nice combinations and Condes throwing less but more telling punches. Judging from Eballe’s body expression, it was already evident in these rounds that he was feeling the power of Condes’ punches. Condes began to unload his heavy artillery in the third round catching Eballe with a big right that almost lifted his feet off the canvas. Sensing he had Eballe’s number, Condes continued his assault in the fourth round. He then caught Eballe with a left straight to the face and a right cross to the jaw that dropped the latter for good. Eballe was officially counted out at 1:59 of the fourth round. Not to be outdone, Philippine Junior Flyweight Champion Sonny Boy Jaro, who comes from the same stable as Concepcion and Condes, also made his presence felt when he stopped Jojo Rodrigo in the second round with a devastating shot to the midsection. Unable to continue, Rodrigo was counted out at 1:25 of the second round. In another fight, Brian Vicera, another Aljoe Jaro prot?g?, won a very exciting match against Rodel Tejares. The two boxers scored a knockdown each in the first two rounds: Vicera getting decked in the first round and recovering to score his own in the second round. The fight was stopped in the third round due to a Tejares cut which was ruled by the Referee Silvestre Abainza to have come from a punch. Thus, Vicera was awarded a TKO win.
