INTERVIEW WITH HERIBERTO RUIZ AND FATHER/TRAINER DON RUIZ

PhilBoxing.com

In a phone conversation from Minglanilla Cebu to Los Mochis Mexico, I got to talk to Heriberto Cuate Ruiz and his father / trainer Don Ruiz who is also the trainer of his 2 other sons Edel "Cuate" Ruiz (twin brother of Heriberto) and Interim WBA World Champion Hugo "Cuatito" Ruiz who just had a world title fight this past Saturday night against Fernando Arce, the brother of 3 time world champion Jorge Arce.

Michael- How is your training going on?

Heriberto - I have been training very hard and still doing a lot of sparring.

Michael- Are you excited to come to the Philippines?

Heriberto- Yes, I heard it is a very beautiful place and nice people.

Michael - Have you seen any videos of rey Bautista lately?

Heriberto- Yes, on YouTube I saw his last 2 fights against Alejandro Barerra.

Michael - Have you seen anything different in the style of Bautista?

Heriberto - He looks like the same fighter, not good in defense.

Michael - But he KOd Barerra...

Heriberto - Alejandro Barerra is not even a good fighter, it means nothing to me. He is just living off of his cousins name [Marco Antonio Barrera].

Michael - Bautista said he had a injured hand and that was why he couldnt fight at his best in your first fight.

Heriberto - He can make all the excuses he wants. I beat him already once. I felt his punches, its not that great. I can walk through his punches. As you saw in the 1st fight, he was knocked down to the floor. He should be a MAN and accept he got beat by a better fighter...

heriberto - Senor Michael, what can you say about Rey Bautista?

Michael- I will tell you like I tell every opponent of ALA BOXERS....ALA BOXERS are always well conditioned, very disciplined fighters. They never quit, they train hard, they have heart, so be prepared for a tough fight.

Heriberto - That is good... I want to fight the best. Bautista is good but I will be ready. This is the year for Mexican world champions... Many Mexicans have beaten the odds this year and become world champions. After I win this fight, I will become a world champion.

Michael - Fernando Montiel has fought here in Cebu in 2007. You are from the same hometown. He is the best Mexican to come to Cebu to fight. The 2nd was Alejandro Barerra.

Heriberto - Hahaha... Like I said Alejandro Barerra is not that good. I will be the best Mexican to fight in Cebu and the people will see me KO Bautista.

Michael - Many Filipinos are saying that the Mexicans that come here to fight are not good and never win... What can you say?

Heriberto - Look, Mexicans are warriors. They go anywhere in the world to fight... If they lose, it's because the other fighter was better that night. For me, I fight to win!!!!!

Michael - Good luck and have a safe trip to Cebu...

INTERVIEW WITH HERIBERTO'S FATHER

Michael - Don Ruiz, it's a pleasure and an honor to talk to you. You are the trainer and father of some unique boxers... Heriberto and Edel Ruiz, twin brothers and also interim WBA world champion Hugo "Little Cuatito" Ruiz... Your sons have accomplished so much in their careers. Can you name the titles they have won?

Don Ruiz - Heriberto was IBF Inter-Continental super bantamweight champion, WBC FECOMBOX bantamweight title, Mexico super flyweight title, Mexican Pacific Coast super flyweight title and also fought Rafael Marquez for the IBF bantamweight title but lost.... and Edel was former NABA Featherweight champion, WBO Latino featherweight Champion and also WBC Caribbean Boxing Federation (CABOFE) featherweight champion, WBC Continental Americas super bantamweight title, WBC FECARBOX bantamweight title, WBC Continental Americas bantamweight title, Mexican Pacific Coast super bantamweight title.

My sons have long careers in boxing...they are all still fighting hard....

Michael - Are you excited to come to Cebu and have a fight here?

Don Ruiz - Yes, we heard from Fernando Montiel that Cebu is a great city and that ALA Promotions is a top rated boxing promotion and we are honored to fight in Cebu and to show the people a great fight... Heriberto is in tip top shape and has trained hard for this rematch....

Michael - Heriberto said you saw videos of Rey Bautista on YouTube, what can you say of his fights?

Don Ruiz - He looked very good against Barerra... but still his defense is still the same, not that good... we will be ready.

Michael - Will your world champion son Hugo come and support Heriberto?

Don Ruiz - Maybe, he is still deciding...

Michael - That would be nice, so the Filipinos can meet a world champion.

Don Ruiz - Will Manny Pacquiao be there to watch the fight, as you know he is loved by many Mexicans.

Michael - I dont know... I hope he will be... He is very busy here in the Philippines. Thank you don Ruiz. It was a pleasure speaking to you. I have to go now, this phone call is very expensive. Have a safe trip to the Philippines and God bless...
