MAY 7, A STATEMENT FIGHT: PACQUIAO THE LEGEND GROWS By Greg R. Penilla, M.D. PhilBoxing.com Fri, 06 May 2011 Las Vegas - In less than 48 hours, the best boxer in the planet will once again be expected to showcase his spectacular fighting prowess. And just like in his previous fights, Manny Pacquaio will not let the fans go home disappointed. As he has always said many times, ?I want to make the fans happy and enjoy a good fight.? In spite of being an overwhelming 7-1 favorite to defeat the affable Sugar Shane Mosley, one would wonder why Manny Pacquiao seems to be extraordinarily motivated for this fight. Freddie Roach, future Hall of Famer and one of the greatest trainers of all time and his Team Pacquaio have declared that this has been Manny Pacquaio?s best training camp ever. What is driving boxing?s pound for pound king to be extremely inspired? Why is he so focused? Where are the usual distractions that plagued previous Team Pacquaio training camps? Even the typically bickering members of Team Pacquaio seem to be getting along so well like long lost friends. I am sure at Manny?s behest. Manny does not need any distractions to achieve a goal that has been brewing in his mind. Manny Dapidran Pacquaio wants to make a statement, a very strong statement. Since the possibility of the much awaited Pacquaio-Mayweather Fight fading with every passing day, Manny wants to bolster his legacy as the overwhelmingly superior fighter over Floyd Mayweather Jr. If Pacquaio-Mayweather fight never happens, the May 7 Mosley-Pacquaio fight will serve as a surrogate fight to establish once and for all that Floyd Jr is not even close to being within Manny Pacquaio?s universe. Many Pacquaio would like to put a significant distance between him and Floyd Jr. He is so anxious to let his fists do the talking and let Floyd Jr, to simply keep on talking. Although the Pacman has been doing his best to sell to the media and the fans that the 3 time World Champion Shane Mosley will be competitive, he knows deep down, that he will demolish Mosley just like the previous big men he fought before him. Manny cannot wait to put on display, that not only he can win overwhelmingly but also devastatingly. He would want to show the world that among common opponents, Floyd Jr wins but Manny Pacquaio not only wins but destroys and sends his adversaries to the hospital, retirement and depression. Although Floyd Jr won a one sided, albeit boring fight against Mosley, Manny will obliterate him and will be the first to knock out the granite chinned Mosley. This weekend?s fight will simply follow the usual pattern. Floyd Jr wins a split decision over Oscar de La Hoya (many experts felt the Golden Boy won). Manny reconfigures Oscar?s pretty face and makes him quit on his stool. Ricky Hatton is knocked out in the 8th round by Floyd Jr after being competitive and winning in the earlier rounds. Manny sends Hatton to an earth shattering thud on the canvas in the second round after two dizzying knockdowns in the first round. Floyd Jr wins a ho hum 12 rounder with Juan Manuel Marquez. Manny wins two brutal and exciting wars with the master counterpuncher. (Technically, Manny won both fights, if not for the mathematically challenged judge) The Mayweathers have tried to downplay these facts but they are well aware of the fury that Pacific Typhoon Pacquaio packs. They are so cognizant of Pacquiao?s dominance that Floyd Jr is trying very hard to win against Pacquiao without actually fighting him. And this coming Saturday, Manny Dapidran Pacquiao will not leave anything to anybody?s imagination. Unfortunately, nice guy, Sugar Shane Mosley will become a sacrificial lamb, a victim of a vicious and ferocious beating by the determined Fighting Congressman from the Philippines. As if sending a strong message to Floyd Jr. Top that! Or fight me and prove me wrong otherwise. The Pacquaio legend continues.
