World Series of Boxing - Hollywood Fight Night Results

PhilBoxing.com

In last night's World Series of Boxing Semi-Finals at the Avalon Hollywood here in Vine Street, Los Angeles, Heavyweight David Imoesiri won a hard fought unanimous decision win over Javonta Charles, as he paced his L.A. Matadors teammates to a 5-0 sweep over the Memphis Force.

The Matador's win set them up for a duel with the Mexico City Guerreros, which upset the Miami Gallos, 4-1 in the latter's home arena last February 27, 2011. The winner of the Americas Conference Finals between the LA Matadors and the Mexico City Guerreros moves on to the World Playoffs.

This fledgling Professional Boxing League that was launched by the International Boxing Association, follows a format that allows top Amateur Boxers and Olympic Gold Medal hopefuls to compete in a professional bout, while retaining their Amateur status. There are presently twelve Franchise Teams, with North America accounting for four, namely, Los Angeles "Matadors" Miami "Gallos" Memphis "Force" and the Mexico City "Guerreros". The rest are in Asia and Europe. The League envisions a strong growth potential in the years to come.

The evening's pivotal team contest started with bantamweights Joseph Diaz and Ronny Beblik fighting fiercely with neither giving grounds for 5 rounnds to the delight of the crowd. Joseph "Explosive" Diaz secured the first win for the Matadors with a 5-round unanimous decision win.

Lightweight Eric "Fearless" Fowler counted win no. 2 for the Matadors with a 2nd round TKO of Bulgarian-born Elian Dimitrov, and continued his own unbeaten run in the series to 4-0, 3 stoppages.

In a middleweight clash, Chris Pearson handed Memphis their 3rd loss by stopping Chris Jones in the 5th round. Egged on by his teammates after the initial Matador's 2-0 lead, Chris Jones tried to mount a serious attack, but Chris Pearson's heavier arsenal stopped him in his tracks.

And, in the penultimate fight, Vyacheslav Shabransky of Kiev, Ukraine scored a 4th round TKO of Anthony Mack to complete the Memphis rout.

The fight was sanctioned by the California State Athletic Commission (CSAC) with Sid Segovia acting as Lead Weight Inspector and Event Supervisor.
