No Christmas for Pacquiao this Year -- Arum
By Dong Secuya PhilBoxing.com Sat, 22 Oct 2005
"Manny's not getting a Christmas this year." This was Bob Arum's response when asked by reporters in Arizona if Pacquiao will return to the Philippines for Christmas after starting training in Phoenix, Arizona in late November.
Bob Arum is in Phoenix to participate in a live teleconference with WBC Interim Champion Hasim Rahman, who is training in Phoenix to prepare for his upcoming battle with WBC Heavyweight Champion Vitali Klitschko on November 12, 2005 in Las Vegas, according to reports by 15rounds.com.
Central Boxing club owner Harwood Hamilton has confirmed that Pacquiao will be arriving in Phoenix in late November or early December.
Pacquiao's scheduled training for his upcoming rematch with Erik Morales, slated on January 21, 2006 in Las Vegas, looms to become the longest and most complete preparation he has done for a fight since his 2 and a half months preparation for his fight with Marco Antonio Barrera in 2003 where he was catapulted to boxing stardom after he demolished the Mexican legend.
Pacquiao has earlier been reported to train in Cebu for 2 weeks starting second week of November at the ALA Boxing Gym, reputedly the Philippines' best boxing training facility which has an array of world class caliber fighters who can be tapped as Pacquiao's sparring partners.
Pacquiao's trainer Freddie Roach and managers Shelly Finkel, Keith Davidson and Nick Khan will fly to the Philippines for Pacquiao's Philippine training before the whole team flies back to the U.S. to resume training in Phoenix, Arizona which is expected to heat up during the Christmas and New Year holidays.
