Lolito Sonsona Defeats Anacaya in Lucena Boxing By Salvador Lopez PhilBoxing.com Mon, 31 May 2010 Fighting in the shadow of his older brother Eden, currently the Philippine bantamweight champion and who figured successfully in the undercard of Manny Pacquiao?s last two fights and of his cousin Marvin, who was the WBO super-flyweight champion not too long ago, is what Lolito Sonsona is doing these days. Nonetheless, the 18-year old Lolito is slowly making a name for himself as he defeated the 5-year veteran Pit Anacaya in the main event of yesterdays? ?Tough Encounter? held at the Pacific Mall, Lucena City, Quezon Province. The fight, which was fought at the light-flyweight limit, was a close affair with neither fighter successful in imposing his will against his opponent. Certainly facing his toughest opponent so far in Anacaya whose fight ledger includes four fights against the current WBC#1 contender Denver Cuello, Sonsona was the busier fighter of the two and somehow managed to sneek in a few straights between Anacaya?s gloves. At times, the boxers fought in flurries nailing each other in the process even though they seem to take the punches well. After the scores were cleared, Sonsona emerged the winner of the 10-round fight via a unanimous decision by the scores of 98-93, 98-92, and 96-94. With the win, Sonsona stays undefeated at 11-0-2 with four knockouts. In the supporting main event, flyweights Dondon Jimenea and Ardine Diale fought to a 10-round majority draw by the scores of 96-94 (Jimenea), 95-95, and 96-96. Diale was inially controlling the fight but soon ran out of steam and later found himself in trouble the rest of the way. Fortunately for him, he still managed to win rounds in the latter part of the fight and this enabled him to stave off defeat. The fight was highlighted by a Diale suplex of Jimenea in the 5th round where Diale received stern warning from Referee Ferdinand Estrella. Rounding off the results of the card: Jethro Pabustan defeated veteran ?gatekeeper? Jun Eraham in their 8-round bantamweight fight via a unanimous decision (79-75, and 77-75 twice; Undefeated Rene Manlapaz scored his 5th victory with a 3rd round knockout victory over Nelson Sungahid in a featherweight bout scheduled for 6 rounds; and Jun Doliguez scored a 3rd round knockout victory over Mark Mariano in their 6-round super-featherweight bout to raise his undefeated record to 5 wins 5 by knockouts. The event was promoted by the Save by the Bell boxing program and yesterday?s event is slated to be aired at RPN-9 this upcoming Sunday at 3pm.
