FLORES, RUBILLAR FIGHT SEPARATE FOES TONIGHT IN 'KULOG SA ELORDE'
PhilBoxing.com Sat, 27 Aug 2005
REXON Flores and Juanito Rubillar will both risk their lofty world rankings against separate veteran foes in the main event of “Kulog sa Elorde” card tonight (Saturday) at the air-conditioned Elorde Sports Center in Sucat, Para?aque City.
Both scheduled for 10-round non-title tiffs, Flores, the current WBO Asia Pacific flyweight king, will take on Faustino Simbajon while Rubillar, the mandatory challenger of the WBC light flyweight title, faces Edwin Ubatay in the first boxing installation of neophyte promoter Edmund Jose in cooperation of Gabriel “Bebot” Elorde Jr.
“Our double main events will definitely be world class bouts so I’m excited for my debut in boxing promotions,” said Jose, son-in-law of the late Gabriel “Flash” Elorde.
Flores (13-2-3 with 7 KOs) is currently ranked No. 5 in the world by the WBO and has a chance to get a shot against reigning champion Omar Narvaez of Argentina if he wins against the taller Simbajon.
On the other hand, Rubillar (36-9-7 with 16 KOs) is looking for another WBC 108-lb championship against the winner between current titlist Eric Ortiz of Mexico and Fil-Am Brian Viloria in the “Double Trouble” card at Staples Center in Los Angeles, California on Sept. 10.
In the undercard, undefeated Rey Labao (6-0, 5 KOs) will slug it out with Richard Laano (4-1-3, 2 KOs) along with five more bouts.
The gate opens at 6 p.m.
