PBF Cherry Picked The Ultimate Mismatch

PhilBoxing.com

Why would you think Money Mayweather would not go on the scales again before the fight? No need to assume that he came in there ring as a middleweight tonight to fight an inflated lightweight. As a result, those who watched were treated to the ultimate mismatch in recent history. Floyd jr was just too big and too fast against Juan Marquez who is the number two ranked pound for pound. After a two year layoff and an extended training camp, the currently unranked and former pound for pound king imposed his size, speed and peddling defense throughout the twelve rounds to win every round. Floyd Jr also punished Marquez with jabs that acquired points on the scorecard. Marquez was only able to land 69 jabs compared to the 290 jabs Floyd landed.

Mayweather won all the rounds by points alone. In the second round he was able to knock Marquez to the canvass at 1:35 with a left cross to the side of Dinamita’s head which made him buckle but not for long. That was the extent of any excitement of Floyd Jr offensive skills tonight.

As expected, most boxing writers and analyst were correct with Saturday night's outcome, the bigger man won. Floyd was hard to hit and the effects on Juan Marquez was he could not formulate any on-going combos that could put the much bigger Floyd Jr into trouble. Marquez did land a punch here in there but the he could not administer enough offensive pressure to keep it going. Early in the fight, Marquez was cut in the fourth and was bleeding from the nose at the end of the fifth rounds.

After twelve rounds, the Ledermann card scored 120-107 in favor of Mayweather. The final judges scorecards were 118-109, 120-107, 119-108 all for Mayweather.

There was more excitement after the fight during the interview with HBO commentator Max Kellerman. To some the interview with the dysfunctional Mayweather could have been more exiting than the fight itself. Floyd Jr was uncooperative with answering any sensitive weight questions and wanted to hijack the interview with for own agenda because he could not justify any self defence with the weight difference. Floyd also came face to face with Sugar Shane Mosely in the interview proposing a fight with PBF gets done. An exchange of words intensified with Mosley and Mayweather because talking to Mayeather is like talking to a brink wall since he couldn’t hear and reply Kellerman’s questions who cut off the interview with him. Floyd, your conversation skills is just going out of style.

Juan Marquez was also interviewed after the fight and his main concern was the size and speed of Mayweather which he could not address. He commented that a couple of fights more in the welterweight division, he would have done better. Marquez fought with honor for his countrymen, part of that honor is he was able to fight the whole fight and Mayweather could not KO him if his life counted on it.

So there you have it folks, this was a classic Mayweather and lives up to its billing that Floyd jr is better than ever when it comes to cherry picking his opponents. And now since Mayweather is in the middleweights, he’s on Manny Pacquaio’s uncharted weight category which makes the fight negotiations between the two boxers difficult than ever without a reasonable catch weight that Mayweather can strictly follow.
