Heath Ellis to challenge for IBO World Youth Title By Carlo Denoy PhilBoxing.com Mon, 01 Jun 2009 On July 24th, up and coming half Filipino prospect Heath ?The Heat? Ellis (10-1-1, 6 KOs) will challenge for the vacant IBO World Youth Title when he steps in the ring against Thailand?s tough Denkamol Kiatchanachai (9-1, 5 KOs). The ten fight card will be promoted by leading Australian Promoter and boxing personality Peter Maniatis at the Malvern Town Hall. Maniatis has been a long-time admirer of Filipino boxing for many years and he proved this by filming a high-profile documentary on the famed ALA Boxing Gym in Cebu City last year. Maniatis, who is based in Melbourne has seen all of the 20 year old Ellis? fights and was ecstatic to have finally have Ellis on his last promotion on April 3rd along with his next promotion in July. Ellis is the current IBF Pan Pacific welterweight champion is also rated #1 by the WBO in the Asia Pacific region. Ellis is also a three-time State Champion; he has held the Victorian light-welterweight, welterweight and light-middleweight titles. This is the most amount of times the title has been held by one fighter in modern Victorian history. Heath?s father Neil migrated to Australia with his family from England in 1968, whereas his mother Melody is originally from the Philippines and has lived in Australia for over twenty years. He is the nephew of former IBF super-featherweight world champion and three-time IBO World Champion Lester Ellis. Heath has had links to boxing since before he was even born. When Heath?s uncle, Lester Ellis was defending his IBF World Title against Rod Sequenan from the Philippines at Festival Hall in 1985. In the challengers corner was Cesar Binsol, he is Heath?s mother?s uncle, who is her father?s brother. Ellis? opponent, 22 year-old Denkamol Kiatchanachai is listed on renowned boxing resource, BoxRec as (9-1, 5 KOs) but according to the Thailand Boxing Commission his record is actually (17-2, 8 KOs). When asked about the contest, Maniatis said; ?Regardless of the outcome, the fans should expect one fiery matchup on July 24th. This fight is not to be missed?.
