LAPUT, LUMACAD READY TO RUMBLE!

PhilBoxing.com

CEBU CITY--Ramie Laput and Fernando Lumacad, two of the top prospects fighting out of the American Boxing Academy (ABA) Gym in Digos City, arrived here today looking ripped and ready to go for their respective bouts on Saturday in Naga City.

Laput and Lumacad touched down from Davao, accompanied by their trainer "Storman" Norman Wilson and team members Fred and Glen Salazar together with Filipino trainer Sugar Ray Mike Revella.

ABA owner and the manager for both fighters, Ken Smith of Washington, USA, also flew in to watch the boys perform at ringside.

The group immediately proceeded to the sprawling mansion of US-based martial arts master Jun Laquindanum, who also hosted the training of IBF flyweight champ Nonito Donaire in Cebu last year, as well as the fighting doctor JV Tuazon of New Jersey.

Also flying in to watch the fights is Maasim, Saranggani Mayor Jojo Lopez, who considers ABA a partner gym.

Laput will face Thailand's Mongkolchai Singmanassak for the interim WBO Asia Pacific superbantam title over 12 rounds.

Lumacad takes on Saensaknoi Or Muangklang for the interim WBO Oriental flyweight crown in another 12-round tiff.

The fighters met for the first time yesterday at the SCOOP Forum hosted by Bobby Inoferio at Baseline Restaurant.

Trainer Norman Wilson, who also trained Trevor Berbick, Razor Ruddock and Nate Campbell in the past, said that his boys are ready, and raring to give the fans a great show.

"They've been running near Mount Apo, and they're in tremendous shape. They are fighting for their lives," said Wilson, who was accompanied by his lovely Filipina wife from Digos City.

Manager Ken Smith, meanwhile, has assured their boys bigger things ahead should they get past their Thai opponents, although Michel Do, who represents the Thai fighters, said that his boys are also ready to shame the local boys.
