LAPUT, LUMACAD TOP 'SAGA IN NAGA' OCT. 4
By Salven L. Lagumbay PhilBoxing.com Thu, 18 Sep 2008
Two prospects and a young, upcoming star brighten up Naga City's fistic skyline on October 4 as SGG Sports Promotion and ABA in cooperation with Mayor Val Chiong and the City of Naga present the "Saga in Naga: The Quest Begins," a triple WBO championship extravaganza.
The historic event, according to promoter Sammy Gello-ani, will be the biggest boxing presentation in the history of Naga with four bouts in the undercard.
Superbantamweight Ramie Laput and flyweight Fernando Lumacad of the American Boxing Academy (ABA) gym of Digos City 's Ken Smith will headline the show against tough Thai opponents.
Viva Sports will cover the fight on television and the bouts will be shown on the top-rating "Main Event" show on Sundays.
Laput, with an outstanding record of 31 wins, 3 losses with 15 knockout victories, will face the very durable Mongkolchai Singmanassak for the WBO Asia Pacific superbantam interim title.
Lumacad, with a fearsome record of 16 wins, 1 loss with 7 KO?s, goes for the big-time when he takes on the talented Saensaknoi Or Muangklang for the WBO Oriental interim flyweight championship.
Both Laput and Lumacad train at the ABA Gym in Digos City under the able guidance of American trainer Norman ?Storman? Wilson .
The third championship battle takes place when teenaged sensation Marvin Sonsona takes on Joel Rafols for the WBO Youth flyweight crown.
?This will be our special offering to the people of Naga City . We wish to send out the message that we are all for sports development in this city,? said Naga City Mayor Val Chiong.
Four exciting bouts spice up the triple championship header.
