Thailand to host WBC 63rd Annual Convention in Phuket in November

The WBC has announced that Bangkok, Thailand, will host its 63rd convention, along with the WBC Muay Thai convention in late November. This will be the 7th convention held in the country, following three previous conventions in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket, and Pattaya.

The conference was attended by WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman; H.E. Rooge Thammongkol, Thai Ambassador to Mexico; and General Thanapol Bhakdibhumi, President of the WBC Asian Boxing Council and International Secretary of the World Boxing Council.

The WBC convention is the largest annual convention in world boxing, featuring medical seminars, open world rankings meetings, public mandatory fight sessions, awards ceremonies, gala dinners, ring officials' seminars, WBC Cares visits, a talent show, a boxing card, and other activities.

The World Boxing Council's Muay Thai convention features two days of training workshops and seminars for ring officials, world champions, championship fights, and training workshops, among other activities.

Muay Thai is established in 95 countries and was established in 2004 with the participation of His Majesty Bhumibol Adulyadej, the King of Thailand, along with World Boxing Council President Dr. José Sulaimán, and General Kovid Bhakdibhumi, WBC Vice President and President of the WBC Asian Boxing Council.

World champions Humberto "Chiquita" González, Adrián "Confesor" Hernández, José Luis Bueno, and José Antonio "Jaguar" Aguirre received a medal upon being named official ambassadors of this convention.

Thailand and the WBC have long been allies in boxing, and in a historic move in 1982, Sombhop Srismvongse and Edward Thangarajah agreed with Don José Sulaimán, president of the World Boxing Council, to promote boxing worldwide in the country.

Thailand has produced world champions such as Chartchai Chionoi, Pongsaklek Wonjongkam, Veeraphol Nakhonluang, Saensak Muangsurin, Sot Chitalada, Samart Payakaroon, Sirimongkol Singmanassuk, Chatchai Sasakul, Sirimongkol Singmanassuk, and Oleydong Sithsamerchai, among others.
