NEW Philippine Boxing Federation [PBF] super lightweight Pepito “El Matador” Masangkay will fight Jose “The Bomber” Ocampo of Malapatan, Sarangani in front of his hometown crowd on April 23 at the JAS municipal gym in Jose Abad Santos.
The 31-year-old Masangkay has seven wins with five knockouts and two defeats.
Masangkay recently won the PBF super lightweight title by stopping Alvin Lagumbay in the 2nd round via technical knockout last January 18, 2025 at Sablayan Astrodome in Sablayan.
He is currently training at the MP Davao Boxing Gym under Raides “Nonoy” Neri.
Masangkay had his first fight outside the Philippines against Ju Wu in China last July 29, 2024 in Chuxiong.
Masangkay suffered his first setback when he lost by a 2nd round knockout for the WBC Far East super lightweight title.
The 35-year-old Ocampo [21-19-1, 13KOs], on the other hand, lost to Jhun Rick Carcedo by a 1st round TKO last February 9, 2025 in Kidapawan City.
The boxing event is promoted by Mayor Jason John Joyce and Vice Mayor Jaytwo Black Mamba in celebration of the 70th Araw ng Jose Abad Santos.
It is dubbed as the “Bakbakan Alang sa Jasenyos”.
It will start at 9 a.m. with the amateur while the professional kicks off at 2 p.m.
“Six more pro fights will be added plus 12 amateur bouts,” said Neri.
