HALL OF FAME FLIES FLAGS AT HALF-STAFF FOR HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION GEORGE FOREMAN

CANASTOTA, NY - MARCH 22, 2025 - The International Boxing Hall of Fame announced its flags will fly at half-staff in memory of Hall of Fame heavyweight champion George Foreman, who passed away yesterday at the age of 76.
“In addition to being an iconic two-time heavyweight champion who thrilled fans with his incredible punching power during the course of his legendary career, George Foreman was also one of the most beloved champions in boxing history,” said Executive Director Edward Brophy. “The Hall of Fame offers our condolences to the Foreman family and joins the boxing world in mourning his passing.”
Born on January 10, 1949, Foreman won the heavyweight gold medal at the 1968 Olympic Games before turning pro the next year. He defeated Joe Frazier for the heavyweight title in 1973 and reigned until 1974 when he lost the title to Muhammad Ali in the “Rumble In The Jungle.” Foreman retired in 1977 but returned to the ring in an epic comeback to regain the heavyweight championship in 1994 by stopping Michael Moorer at age 45. Foreman retired from the ring in 1997 with a 76-5 (68 KOs) record that includes wins over George Chuvalo, Ken Norton, Ron Lyle, Dwight Qawi and Gerry Cooney. Foreman was also a popular expert commentator for HBO's World Championship Boxing.
In 2003, Foreman was elected into the International Boxing Hall of Fame.
