SPORTS RECORDS 3: FLOYD MAYWEATHER JR. ONE OF THE MOST HIGHEST PAID ATHLETES IN THE WORLD

PhilBoxing.com

Floyd Mayweather Jr. is one of the most profitable pay-per-view draws of all time, in any sporting event. He topped the Forbes and Sports Illustrated lists of the 50 highest-paid athletes of 2012 and 2013, and was number one again in the Forbes list in 2014 and 2015, as the highest-paid athlete in the world. He has enticed approximately 24 million PPV buys and $1.67 billion earnings all throughout his colorful professional career.

In 2018, he was the highest-paid athlete on the planet, with total earnings, including product endorsements, of $285 million, according to Forbes. In November, 2021, Sportico released an all-time athlete earnings list, in which Mayweather ranked no. 6 of all time, with a total of an inflation-adjusted $1.2 billion income in his career.

Basketball rules were changed because of the exceptional athleticism and skill of Wilt Chamberlain. He was unstoppable in the area near the basket which caused the widening of the shaded lane, imposing offensive goaltending prohibitions, and the banning of inbound passes over the backboard. Chamberlain was a poor free throw shooter, and had the ability to dunk from the foul line, which gave way to the rule that a free-throw shooter must keep his feet behind the line.

Chamberlain owns 72 NBA records, 68 of them individually. Many of his records are considered unbreakable, like his averaging 22.9 rebounds in a career or 50.4 points per game in a season, scoring 100 points or 55 rebounds in a single game. He scored 65 or more points 15 times, and 50 or more points 118 times.

During Chamberlain's time, defensive statistics like blocks and steals were not recorded yet. According to Jack Ramsay, "Harvey [Pollack] said he used to tell one of his statisticians to keep track of Wilt's blocks in big games. ... One night, they got up to 25."

The first season blocked shots were officially recorded in the NBA was 1973-1974, the season after Chamberlain retired as a player. The official NBA record of 17 blocks in a single game was established by Elmore Smith in 1973.
