Kansas blue-chip boxing prospect Marco “El Tiburón” Romero enjoys Giving back to his community PhilBoxing.com Thu, 12 Dec 2024 KANSAS CITY, Kan. (December 11, 2024) -- Kansas blue-chip prospect Marco “El Tiburón” Romero (4-0, 3 KOs), who recently turned 19, hasn’t forgotten where he comes from, and he demonstrated that this past Monday. Romero was a member of a volunteer group of nurses and friends, led by Lisa Oakes, who brought holiday spirit to City Union Mission Family Center in Kansas City, Missouri. They prepared and served food to parents and single women with children in need of shelter and assistance with life necessities. “I had the honor of being able to help out at the City Union Mission Family Center,” the 23-time national amateur champion Romero said. “We were able to bring smiles to the faces of parents and children there, serving them Kansas City’s finest brisket and pulled pork. It’s a privilege to be able to give back to my community and this is something I’ve always wanted to do. By giving back, I not only help those in need, but I also grow as an individual, gaining a deeper appreciation for blessings in my own life.” A promotional free agent, Romero has completed a remarkable 12-month stretch in which he won all 13 of his fights, including nine in elite amateur competition – three at the USA Boxing National Championships and five at the National Golden Gloves Tournament (Marco was named Most Outstanding Boxer) – and closed his run by going 4-0 with three knockouts as a professional boxer. Mature beyond his years, Romero is taking a well-deserved break from fighting to enjoy the holidays with his family and friends, before returning to the ring in the first quarter of 2025 for what is expected to be a banner year. “Marco is a manager/coach’s dream,” Romero’s legendary Kansas-based manager/head trainer John Brown added. “He is obsessed for success and equipped with necessary work ethic, mental toughness, and best of all, a well-functioning sense of humor that makes this voyage a true pleasure.” City Union Mission’s programs are designed to help parents get the classes, counseling, job training and Biblical foundation they need to provide for their families. Kids can also enjoy stability and educational opportunities through chapel services, classroom instruction and daycare, and Bible studies.
