SPORTS SHORTS 283: JOHN RIEL CASIMERO SAYS HE WILL RETIRE AND WON'T FIGHT AGAIN WITHOUT INOUE By Maloney L. Samaco PhilBoxing.com Tue, 19 Nov 2024 In his Facebook account "Quadro Alas it's my boy", John Riel Casimero posted the following: "Quadro Alas John Riel Casimero Titigil Na Mag Boxing" Then he showed a picture showing his Courtesy Call to GAB Chairman Atty. Francisco J. Rivera. He thanked the Chairman of his advice and support to them and to all Sports. He added in another post that he won't fight again without Naoya Inoue. * * * Casimero and Inoue were scheduled to clash on April 25, 2020 in Las Vegas, Nevada. At that time, Inoue was the WBA/IBF bantamweight champion while Casimero was the title holder of the WBO bantamweight belt. The fight did not happen because of the Covid-19 pandemic. * * * Jake Paul defeated Mike Tyson by unanimous decision in an eight-round heavyweight match at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, on Friday. All three judges scored the fight for Paul, 80-72, 79-73 and 79-73. * * * The fight was sanctioned by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, and it was fought at 2-minute rounds, as both fighters wore 14-ounce gloves instead of the regular 10-ounce gloves for heavyweight fights. * * * Tyson, 58, and Paul, 27, the YouTuber-boxer, were scheduled to meet on July 20, but the fight was postponed after Tyson was given medical treatment during a flight from Miami to Los Angeles in May due to an ulcer. * * * Tyson (50-7, 44 KOs) became the youngest heavyweight champion at age 20 in 1986. One year later he had unified all three major belts to become an undisputed heavyweight champion. He made six successful defenses of the three belts until losing in a historic upset to James "Buster" Douglas by 10th-round KO in February 1990. * * * Paul (11-1, 7 KOs) began his boxing career in 2020 with six consecutive victories fighting mostly against former MMA fighters. Paul's lone defeat was against Tommy Fury in February 2023, but he has since won five straight fights, including the last against Tyson. * * * The Cleveland Cavaliers joined an exclusive four NBA clubs that started their season 15–0 with a 128–114 win over the Charlotte Hornets last Sunday (Monday Manila time). * * * With the 15th straight win, Cleveland joined the 1948-49 Washington Capitols (15-0), 1993-94 Houston Rockets (15-0) and 2015-16 Golden State Warriors (24-0). All the three teams were able to finish the season in the NBA Finals, but only the Rockets won the NBA title. Top photo shows John Riel Casimero with GAB Chairman Atty. Francisco J. Rivera.
