UNDERCARD FOR ROCHA VS. DOMINGUEZ FEATURED THE RETURN OF GOLDEN BOY’S BEST PROSPECTS
GOLDEN BOY FIGHT NIGHT ON DAZN WAS LIVE FROM FANTASY SPRINGS RESORT CASINO

INDIO, CALIF. (July 19, 2024) - In a back-and-forth action fight, Santa Ana's Alexis “Lex” Rocha (25-2, 16 KOs) became the new NABO Welterweight Titleholder and handed Santiago Dominguez (27-1, 20 KOs) of Ciudad Obregon, Mexico his first-ever loss as the headlining event of Golden Boy Fight Night on DAZN. The 10-round welterweight regional title match showed a tactical Rocha who broke down a tough and resilient Dominguez by carefully plotting his punches. Dominguez was able to keep up with Rocha, getting Rocha with a medley of tough blows throughout the match. The judges scored the bout unanimously for Rocha with scores of 99-91, 98-92 and 99-91. The event took place at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino and was broadcast worldwide on DAZN.

“I wanted to show everyone that I’m not just a banger, I can use my IQ in there and that’s what I needed," said Alexis Rocha. "I knew Dominguez was going to come forward, he just keeps coming, so that’s what I wanted to show. It’s more about my brains from now on. I want to be very aware in the ring, and I want to use my brains. That’s all you’re going to see moving forward. I have a great team behind me, Golden Boy, and we’re just going to see what’s next. I’m right there. I’m knocking on the door still. The belts are gonna be open anytime soon, so I’m just knocking on the door right now.”

In the co-main event, Gregory “Goyo” Morales (17-1, 9 KOs) of San Antonio, Texas improved his record in a 10-round super featherweight fight against the crafty Jayvon “El Elegido” Garnett (10-2, 5 KOs) of Cincinnati, Ohio. The first time Morales went 10-rounds, he was able to outcompete the awkward style of Garnett.

“I feel amazing. I feel like there’s room for improvement, it was my first 10-rounds,” said Gregory Morales. “There’s only room for improvement from here on out. I learned the pace of the fight. I learned to pick it up, slow it down. I learned that I can do a full 10 rounds.”

Chief support on the DAZN card, the Coachella Valley-hero, the still undefeated Grant Flores (6-0, 5 KOs) added another knockout victory to his portfolio in a fight scheduled as a six-round super welterweight match against Juan Meza (4-6, 3 KOs) of Los Angeles. Flores floored his opponent with his anvil-hands, securing a second-round victory at 1:54 when Meza couldn’t keep up with the bombardment of punches.

In a fight featuring two tough prospects, the undefeated Jorge “El Niño Dorado" Chavez (12-0, 8 KOs) continued his winning streak in a six-round featherweight fight against Riku Kitani (8-3, 3 KOs). All three judges scored the bout 60-54 in favor of Chavez who was the more dominant fighter throughout the bout. Opening the broadcast, another hometown favorite representing Indio, the still undefeated Bryan Lua (10-0, 5 KOs) handed Guadalajara, Mexico’s Diuhl Olguin (16-39-7, 10 KOs) his first KO-loss since 2017. Scheduled as a six-round lightweight match, Olguin’s corner called the fight at 2:03 in the fifth.

Part of the preliminary fights, Fabian Guzman (5-0, 5 KOs) of Orange, Calif. landed the perfectly placed body shot to the liver, winning his bout via knockout against Corey Cook (2-2-1, 1 KO) of Las Vegas. Scheduled for four-rounds of middleweight action, Guzman took Cook down at 2:14 in the first round. Opening fight night activities, Phoenix, Arizona’s Juan Estrada Jr. (3-0, 1 KO) defeated Dyllon Cervantes (3-3-1, 2 KOs) of Salt Lake City, Utah in a four-round lightweight match that went the distance. Estrada had thump in his punches and was able to withstand Cook’s counter-offensive. The judges scored the bout unanimously for Estrada with all three scores reading 40-36.
