EXCLUSIVE BEHIND THE SCENES OF BOOTS ENNIS AND AVANESYAN CAMPS IN ‘MAKE THE DAYS COUNT’

PhilBoxing.com

Philly’s Welterweight king defends IBF crown against dangerous Armenian on Saturday

ENNIS: “It’s been a minute. I know y’all missed me. Fighting at home is everything to me. It’s where I’m from, it’s where I started. I’ll fight anyone, I don’t care who it is, I just want to get back in the ring, and someone is going to pay.”

AVANESYAN: “I think that this is a 50-50 fight. He’s younger, he’s strong, it’s a very good fight.”

Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis and David Avanesyan let the Matchroom cameras into their training camps for our YouTube series ‘Make The Days Count’ ahead of their clash for Ennis’ IBF World Welterweight title at Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia on Saturday July 13, live Worldwide on DAZN.

Ennis (31-0 28 KOs) makes a long-awaited return to his hometown and in his maiden World title defense, and spoke about his excitement at fighting in his backyard for the first time in 2066 days, and how he plans to use Saturday night’s fight as a springboard to becoming undisputed at 147lbs.

Avanesyan (30-4-1 18 KOs) replaces Cody Crowley in the bout, and the former WBA champion is looking to rule once again. The British-based Armenian believes it’s a 50-50 fight, and coach Carl Greaves says this could be his charge’s last shot at reaching the pinnacle.

“I’m excited about collecting all the belts and becoming undisputed,” said Ennis. “July 13 is going to be fireworks, don’t miss it.

“Staying active is the key. Having this time off isn’t going to affect me at all. I just want to get back in the ring.

We haven’t had a big fight here in I don’t know how long, this is what the city needs. This homecoming is everything. It’ll be a blessing to walk out in front of my friends and family and ultimately shine. To know that I have my ‘hood and my city behind me, it’s a blessing and I’m going to keep putting on for those guys.

“What makes me the best in the division? I can do everything, whatever you want, I got it.”

“It’s a better fight than Cody Crowley but I’ll beat him up, break him down and get the knockout!”

“Many people say ‘you are crazy’ but this is my life,” said Avanesyan. “I know only boxing – so you call me to say ‘you are fighting’ and I start training. I think that this is a 50-50 fight. He’s younger, He’s strong, it’s a very good fight.”

Ennis’ clash with Avanesyan is part of a stacked night of action in Philadelphia, where there’s more World title action as Skye Nicolson (10-0 1 KO) defends her WBC World Featherweight crown for the first time against Dyana Vargas (18-1 12 KOs).

One of Matchroom’s latest signings Jalil Hackett (8-0 7 KOs) faces a real test in his first fight under Eddie Hearn’s guidance, taking on Peter Dobson (16-1 9 KOs) for the WBA Continental North America Welterweight title and there’s also a first title fight for Khalil Coe (8-0-1 6 KOs) as he meets Manuel Gallegos (20-2-1 17 KOs) for the USWBC Light-Heavyweight strap.

Christopher Diaz (28-4 18 KOs) takes on Derlyn Hernandez (12-1-1 10 KOs) over eight rounds at Super-Featherweight, Philadelphia duo Christian Carto (22-1 15 KOs) and Boots Promotions’ Ismail Muhammad (4-0 3 KOs) fight over eight rounds at Super-Bantamweight and six rounds at Welterweight respectively against Carlos Buitrago (38-13-1 22 KOs) and Frank Brown (3-4-2 1 KO), while there’s a pro debut for another Philly native, as Dennis Thompson steps through the ropes in the paid ranks for the first time over four rounds at Bantamweight against Fernando Valdez (1-7).
