Panabo Knights Chess Club Leads ACAPI Winners in Tuesday's Awarding Ceremony

Manila---ACAPI (Association of Chess Amateurs in the Philippines, Incorporated) President Arena Grandmaster/Engineer Rey Cris Urbiztondo announced that the awarding for the recently concluded 1st President's Cup 2024 ACAPI Online Chess Tournament will be held on Tuesday, May 28, 2024 in a Zoom meeting online at seven in the evening.

Panabo Knights Chess Club of National Master Henry Roger Lopez will lead the winners. The Panabo Knights won the championship in the Open Division and the Youth Division. They placed second in the Senior Division and the PWD Division.

"Due to the excellence shown by the Panabo Knights Chess Club, they will be awarded the overall champion with a corresponding prize in addition to the prize in each division," explained by ACAPI President AGM Urbiztondo.

Also winning was Davao Durianburg Stallions of National Arbiter Ely Acas, who won the PWD Division, second in the Open Division and third in the Female Division.

Coach Boyet Tardecilla's Imus Cefag PPKGCC who won the Female Division and placed third in the PWD Division.

Also the Las Pinas TFCC CMC of Coach Ferdinand Reyes who placed second in the Female Division and third in the Open Division and Senior Division.

Tuguegarao A won the championship in the Under 12 Division and Tuguegarao C was third while IM Ronald Bancod's Laoag Sunshine City placed second in the Under 12 Division.

Meanwhile, the four-man Madridejos Knights Chess Club etched its name in stone as the first ever senior division champion of the Association of Chess Amateurs of the Philippines, Inc. (ACAPI) President’s Cup online tournament.

Led by playing team owner Engr. Josito “Jojo” Clamor Dondon who is based in Texas, United States, the Madridejos Knights completed a clean sweep of Davao del Norte’s Panabo Knights Chess Club in their four-round championship match to clinch the historic crown.

“Our constant practice greatly helped us in getting the championship title,” said Dondon, an Arena International Master and US Candidate Master who is a businessman and professional day trader in the US stock market who thanked to ACAPI officials headed by it's president AGM Urbiztondo for the success of the inaugural online tournament being held at Chess.com Platform.

ACAPI President AGM Urbiztondo expressed gratitude to all who participated as well as the officials of ACAPI for the successful aforementioned online tournament.

He also mentioned that the next ACAPI Tournament - Second Conference is hosted by Atty. Jong Guevarra.-Marlon Bernardino-
