PINOY BOXING 9: JUDY FLORES FACES ANDREW MOLONEY IN A TEN-ROUND FIGHT IN AUSTRALIA By Maloney L. Samaco PhilBoxing.com Tue, 21 Nov 2023 Judy Flores. Rising superflyweight fighter Judy Flores will face the toughest foe as a professional when he exchange blows with former World Boxing Association (WBA) Regular superflyweight champion Andrew Moloney in a 10-round encounter on December 9, 2023 at the Pullman Hotel in Victoria, Australia. The 25-year-old Flores is the underdog in his opponent's territory but he is not intimidated and wanted to win in an upset against the more seasoned Moloney and make a name in the superflyweight division. Moloney is presently rated No. 9 by the WBC and No. 10 by the WBO, while Flores is No. 15 by the WBA. “He’s ready to go,” said coach Nonito Donaire Sr., the coach of Flores, as quoted by SunStar Cebu. “He has a huge chance of winning. He just needs to remain busy with his punches.” Flores of Davao del Norte suffered his first and only career defeat on May 21, 2022 to world title challenger Antonio Nieves of Cleveland, Ohio by unanimous decision in the the hometown of Nieves in the United States. Since then, Flores won three fights against Rodel Sunquit by TKO, Jonathan Taconing by UD and Jerald Palcar by SD. Donaire Sr. added that “Moloney is easy to hit and can’t handle a solid punch. As long as he follows the game plan then he has a big chance of winning.” The 32-year-old Moloney lost in his last fight to WBO super flyweight champion Junto Nakatani of Japan by a 12th round knockout last May 20 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Moloney went down in rounds two, eleven, and twelve. Moloney won the interim WBA super flyweight belt in November 15, 2019 in an eighth round stoppage of Elton Dharry of Guyana in Australia. He fought in a trilogy with Joshua Franco for the WBA super flyweight belt. He lost twice by unanimous decision while one fight resulted in a no contest. Moloney won over Froilan Saludar by unanimous decision on December 21, 2021 for the vacant WBO Oriental superflyweight title. Flores now has a career record of 13-1 with seven knockout victories while Moloney is 25-3 with 16 knockout wins. Click here to view a list of other articles written by Maloney L. Samaco. |
