Filipino Melvin "Gringo" Jerusalem (20-2, 12 KO's) did what many thought he could not!!!
He went to Japan to overpower and stop in less than 5 minutes tough Japanese local warrior champ Masataka Taniguchi (16-4, 11 KO's), to claim for the Philippines the WBO Minimumweight World Title Friday, January 6, at the EDION Arena in Osaka, Japan.
And.... WAO. What a beautiful way to begin this new year by giving boxing fans in his native land the precious gift of a world title on Epiphany Day. šš¼
Puerto Rico referee Roberto Ramirez Jr., waived it all off at 1:04 in chapter 2, declaring the Pinoy warrior born in Bukidnon as the new WBO 105 lbs world champion. Congratulations!
