NBA Daily: Clippers Exert Dominance, Rout Spurs 119-97 By Reylan Loberternos PhilBoxing.com Sun, 20 Nov 2022 Los Angeles, California – Paul George played only 15 minutes, but scored 21 points, including 5 threes early to commence the LA Clippers onslaught and rout of the slumping San Antonio Spurs 119-97 at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California. Then Reggie Jackson and Norman Powell took turns thwarting any Spurs attempt at a comeback, finishing with 20 and 26 markers, respectively. Jackson was perfect from deep with 4 makes, while Powell had 5 on 5-for-8 shooting from behind the arc off-the-bench. John Wall only scored 5 points, but was responsible for 15 of the Clippers 32 assists for the game. Kawhi Leonard scored 11 points in 22 minutes of play, but was efficient from the field at 62.5% accuracy. The Spurs struggled to score on the disruptive Clippers defense that is second in the league in points allowed. In the first quarter, the Clippers outscored the Spurs 40-to-22. They also had 13 assists to the Spurs’ 7 and were 9-for-16 from the rainbow territory, while the Spurs could only connect 2 of 4 attempts in the opening frame. Jakob Poeltl was the lone bright spot for the Spurs, as he finished with 20 points on 8-for-15 field goal shooting and was a surprisingly perfect 4-for-4 from the charity stripe, to go along with 8 rebounds, 3 assists, and 1 steal. He also didn’t commit any turnovers. Devin Vassell did his pre-game routine in uniform, but was on street clothes when the game began. When Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich was asked by this reporter during the pre-game press conference whether Keldon Johnson, Devin Vassell, and Jakob Poeltl would play, he said “Yes.” When another reporter pressed on whether Devin Vassell was gonna play, Pop said, “he’s in, unless you know something that I don’t.” The Clippers were like a well-oiled machine that’s primed for a deep playoff run. The Spurs, on the other hand, made a lot of sloppy plays, typical of a very young team that’s probably headed to the lottery. The San Antonio Spurs, who dropped to a 6-11 win-loss card, will try to snap their 4-game losing skid, as they face the LA Lakers on Sunday night (Monday morning, Philippine time) on the second night of a back-to-back. Meanwhile, the LA Clippers, who improved to 10 wins and 7 losses, will next host the Utah Jazz on Monday night (Tuesday morning, Philippine time). How They Scored: Clippers 119 – Powell 26, George 21, Jackson 20, Leonard 11, Morris Sr. 11, Mann 10, Brown 6, Wall 5, Zubac 3, Batum 3, Coffey 3 Spurs 97 – Poeltl 20, McDermott 13, Johnson 11, Bates-Diop 9, Roby 8, Jones 6, Barlow 6, Bassey 6, Richardson 6, Hall 5, Sochan 4, Branham 3 Around the League: Road Team – Home Team Raptors 122 – Hawks 124 (OT) Magic 113 – Pacers 114 Timberwolves 112 – 76ers 109 Jazz 118 – Trail Blazers 113 Comments are highly appreciated.
