Column: Magsayo Throws More Quality Punches Than Tough Mexican (Photos) By Carlos Costa PhilBoxing.com Mon, 05 Oct 2020 In entertaining action, unbeaten Filipino featherweight Mark “Magnífico” Magsayo of Bohol defeated tough coming-forward Mexican Rigoberto Hermosillo vía split decision Saturday evening @ the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California.👍👍 However, the opponent was not easy. The slightly bigger Mexican southpaw was game and competitive throughout the 10-round clash. Wanting a victory, he engaged the Pinoy, throwing hands, landing several times good, but never with enough power nor continuity to get Magsayo in trouble. The Mexican effort was no way enough as the more skilled and sizzling Magsayo counter attacked better, scoring the more telling blows that made him the eventual rightful winner. In addition, “El Magnífico” displayed a far richer repertoire of punches throughout the rumble. In contrast, Hermosillo was monotonous dishing out pretty much the same limited arsenal: his partially-effective right jab, straight left and right hook and that was it; easier to read, while the Filipino was abundant in his punching quality, way more confusing, faster and unpredictable. Magsayo clearly a more talented warrior. Yes indeed, the 25-year-old Visayan fighter fought in superior fashion, effectively piling up enough numbers chapter after chapter to emerge victorious; and now he craving for a shot at a featherweight world title. Will he get it soon? Hopefully he will get it in 2021 as he is world ranked boxer with a power promotion company looking after him. Ranked by the WBC and the IBF, Magsayo is a fighter of Manny Pacquiao’s MP Promotions, thus, a stablemate of exciting Pinoy world champions Johnriel “Cuadro Alas”Casimero and Jerwin “Pretty Boy” Ancajas. 👍👍 It was the very first time that Mark Magsayo headlined a boxing show on a Saturday evening prime time in a major 🇺🇸 U.S. television network; and the former baker boy passed the difficult test with flying colors. As a result, his standing in the hotly 126-pound division has absolutely improved, acquiring a higher position in the world rankings. His many fans wish to see him fighting a world champion. Likely next year he will. Magsayo’s fight was promoted by Premier Boxing Champions live on Fox.
