Brogdon-less Pacers Hold Off Warriors, 128-118
By Jason Aniel PhilBoxing.com Sat, 25 Jan 2020
San Francisco, CA—The Warriors blew a golden chance to steal a victory from the Indiana Pacers at home, losing their third straight game 129-118 at Chase Center. The Pacers were without their point guard Malcom Brogdon due to a concussion. Stepping up in Brogdon’s place in the scoring department was T.J Warren, who scored a team high 33 points and dominated the paint.
The Pacers led by as much as 19 points but the Warriors, who are statistically one of the worst 3-point shooting teams in the NBA, kept it close via the three point shot. The Warriors made 19 three pointers, nine of which came from D'Angelo Russell, who scored a game high 37 points. Russell’s 37 seemed appropriate given it was the five year anniversary of Klay Thompson’s 37 points in just one quarter. Thompson is recovering from a torn ACL and will be reevaluated in February.
Domantas Sabonis scored 16 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists for the Pacers, who will wrap up their 5 game road trip in Portland on Sunday. Doug McDermott scored a season high 24 points off the bench.
The Warriors only had nine players available to play because the Warriors were without depth at the center spot when the team traded Willie Cauley Stein to the Dallas Mavericks. Stein, who had been the team’s starting center, was replaced by Marquese Chriss in the starting lineup. Chriss had 13 points with three rebounds. The Warriors now travel to Philadelphia to take on the 76ers on Monday to begin a five-game road trip.
