NBA Daily: Embiid Leads 76ers Past Nuggets 97-92 to Stay Unbeaten at Home

PhilBoxing.com

Boracay Island, Philippines – In a battle between two of the game’s top big men today, Joel Embiid just showed why he was picked 38 spots ahead of then unknown Nikola Jokic in the 2014 NBA Rookie Draft. Embiid, the 3rd overall pick of that draft, finished with team high 22 points, 10 rebounds, 6 assists, 2 steals, and 1 block to help the Philadelphia 76ers stay unbeaten at home in 13 outings, after edging Jokic and the Denver Nuggets 97-92 on Tuesday night (Wednesday morning, Philippine time) at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Tobias Harris added 20 markers, while rookie Matisse Thybulle buried three from deep to finish with 13 off the bench. Philadelphia has now won three straight and seven of their last eight games. They now sit at 4th place in the Eastern Conference team standings with 18 wins and 7 losses.

Jokic had 15 points, 7 boards, and 11 dimes for Denver, but was short on support, as their leading scorer Jamal Murray didn’t score anything and was limited to just about 5 minutes of game action, after sustaining a game-ending injury at the 6:49 mark of the first frame, when he collided with Ben Simmons.

Will Barton led Denver in scoring with 26 across his name. Gary Harris and Paul Millsap added 14 and 10, respectively for the Nuggets, who have lost their 3rd straight game to drop to a 14-8 win-loss card for 5th place in the Western Conference team standings.

The Nuggets will travel home to face the Portland Trailblazers on Thursday night (Friday morning, Philippine time).

Meanwhile, the 76ers will face the Celtics in Boston on the same date.

How they scored:

76ers 97– Embiid 22, Harris 20, Thybulle 13, Horford 11, Scott 8, Simmons 7, Ennis III 7, Kokmaz 6, Richardson 3

Nuggets 92 – Barton 26, Jokic 15, Harris 14, Millsap 10, Morris 7, Porter 6, Beasley 5, Craig 4, Grant 3, Plumlee 2
