Pride of Bohol: An Interview with Mark 'Magnifico' Magsayo By Reylan Loberternos PhilBoxing.com Thu, 29 Aug 2019 ![]() Magsayo. Tungod, Inabanga, Bohol ? We had the privilege of speaking with undefeated Boholano fighter Mark ?Magnifico? Magsayo (18-0-0, 14 KOs) about his thoughts on his upcoming bout with former world champion Panya Uthok (53-6-0, 35 KOs), otherwise known as Pungluang Sor Singyu Onesong, of Thailand for the vacant WBC Asia Featherweight and IBF Pan Pacific Featherweight titles. The regional championship bout will be held at the Bohol Wisdom Gymnasium in Tagbilaran City, Bohol on Saturday, August 31, 2019 under Vladimir Boxing Promotions. The interview was done in the vernacular, but we translated it to English for the benefit of the non-Visayan-speaking readers. Philboxing.com: Mark, a pleasant evening to you. How are you feeling right now? Magsayo: Good evening, too, sir. I?m feeling great. I?m ready. Philboxing.com: We have a few questions for you. To start off, you haven?t fought here in the Philippines in the past couple of years. In fact your last fight was April this year in Singapore where you won via knockout. In what round was the fight halted? Magsayo: It was in the fourth round, sir. Philboxing.com: Do you think your relative inactivity on top of the ring will have some effect on the outcome of your upcoming fight with Uthok? Tell us about your conditioning. Magsayo: My conditioning is excellent, sir. I have been training continuously for 4 months in Malaysia and another four months in Las Vegas, where I sparred with Nonito Donaire, Jr. and some other Las Vegas-based fighters. Philboxing.com: What can you tell us about Uthok, your Thai opponent this Saturday? Kindly give us a brief background about the kind of fighter that he is. Magsayo: My opponent is a very good and skilled fighter, a grizzled veteran. He was the one who knocked AJ ?Bazooka? Banal out in the 9th round of their world championship bout held in Manila. He is a veteran of many fights, with a lot of experience under his belt. He is also a two-time world champion. This is not an easy bout because about 20 Pinoy boxers have fallen prey to this Thai fighter. Philboxing.com: So this fight is going to be very interesting. Magsayo: Yes, sir. That?s why my team and I have been training very hard to prepare for this fight. In the past three months, we?ve had a lot of sparring, training, conditioning, and strengthening exercises. Philboxing.com: What can we expect from you this Saturday? Do you have any early predictions? Magsayo: I cannot predict anything, sir because my opponent is not a patsy. All I can promise is that I will give it my all, to the best of my ability to try to win. I have prepared for this fight and I am confident in my skills and in our preparation. Philboxing.com: As a parting shot, kindly speak to your Pinoy fans and invite them to watch your bout. Magsayo: To all boxing fans, I hope that you will support me on my upcoming fight on August 31. Let?s see each other at Bohol Wisdom Gymnasium and please pray for me for the best physical condition. Thank you very much. ![]() Tickets for the event are now available on SM Ticket Outlets, Tagbilaran City GSO Office, Bohol Tropics Resort, Harada Boxing Gym and may be bought online via Vladimir Boxing Promotions Facebook Page /vladimirboxingpromotions.
