Noynay Stops Shimizu to Retain WBO Asia Pacific Belt Friday in Osaka, Japan
By Carlos Costa PhilBoxing.com Fri, 12 Jul 2019

In a thrilling hard-fought battle, the Cebuano "Jawbreaker" Joe Noynay of the Gabriel "Bebot" Elorde Jr. Gym survived an early scare to stop tough Japanese knockout artist Satoshi Shimizu (8-1, 8 KO's) in the sixth chapter of their hot war tonight (Friday July 12) at the EDION Arena in Osaka, Japan.
With the exciting victory, Noynay successfully retained for the first time the WBO Asia Pacific Super Featherweight title that he won last April in this very same stage in Japan.
Not at easy win for the 5' 8" Noynay (18-2-1, 7 KO's) who in the first stages of the war was badly rocked down to the canvas and on the brink of getting knocked out. The bell might have saved the Filipino.
But in the subsequent rounds, the Jawbreaker -- born in Bogo, northern Cebu -- severely punished and busted black the right eye of the Japanese forcing him to give the back in signal of surrender during the action of stanza six.
An awesome triumph for the southpaw Joe Noynay, who undoubtedly improves his standing in the world-rankings. He is currently #6 in the WBO.
Noynay, 23, was assisted in his corner by his experienced coach Artcher Villamor and his promoter Bebot Elorde.
Joe Noynay's fight was a supporting bout in the main event Brant vs Murata 2 for the WBA Middleweight Regular World Title.
