GORRES-DARCHINYAN WINNER IN FOR BIG BOUT
By Salven L. Lagumbay PhilBoxing.com Thu, 03 Jan 2008

Whoever wins the battle between Z "The Dream" Gorres and Vic "Raging Bull" Darchinyan on February 2 in Cebu will most likely end up either becoming the new IBF champ or vie for the unified WBC/IBF crowns.
This developed after IBF superfly champ Dmitri Kirilov forged a deal to face WBC superfly champion Cristian Mijares at the latter's turf on May 17 in Durango, Mexico to unify the two titles.
The IBF had earlier ruled that whoever wins between in the Gorres-Darchinyan eliminator will get an outright shot at Kirilov, who won the title with a points win over Jose Navarro last October.
Should Kirilov win against Mijares, he might choose to relinquish the IBF crown, or defend the two titles against the Gorres-Darchinyan winner.
In an event Mijares wins the IBF version to add to his WBC title, he is also hard put to defend the IBF title, and either he relinquishes it or fight the Gorres-Darchinyan winner.
In either case, the winner of the February 2 eliminator in Cebu will end up facing the prospect of fighting Mijares or Kirilov, or being crowned outright the IBF superfly champion.
It seems the February 2 winner takes it all.
