THE RECKY DULAY SAGA - DO YOU BELIEVE IN ?KARMA??

PhilBoxing.com

There is a saying that when one does something that is not quite palatable, and does it without due regards to people particularly those who have done good deeds for him, the consequences of his action, like the wheel of fortune, comes around and hits him hard.

Filipinos like to call it ?karma?. And, karma happens!

Case in point:

Rey Rodis - Recky Dulay?s new manager.

Those who are familiar with Recky Dulay?s fights in the US know the history of Dulay. In his first fight in the US, against Gervonta Davis at the MGM in Las Vegas in September 2015, it was alleged that Dulay had problems with his then manager. According to Dulay and Rodis, Dulay was essentially neglected.

Dulay lost to Davis via 2nd round TKO. Actually, he barely fought. At the middle of round 2, he simply turned around and refused to fight anymore- so the TKO loss.

Then in early summer 2017 Dulay somehow got connected with Rey Rodis, a ?Hollywood producer?. Rodis and the Team Dulay employed former world champion Rodel Mayol to train Dulay at the Wildcard Gym in Hollywood.

Mayol did his best and trained him the same way he did Asthon Palicte and Romero Duno, two unknown Filipino boxers that Mayol brought to the limelight with memorable victories as underdogs.

To make a long story short, Dulay landed a fight at a Golden Boy card at the Forum in Inglewood in July this year. Dulay knocked out Jaime Arboleda, then an undefeated fighter from Panama. Arboleda was supposed to be a good prospect. In fact my good friend from Panama, Carlos Costa warned me ?not to bet against Arboleda?.

After the victory, it seems however that Mayol?s great coaching that led to the Dulay win against Arboleda did not mean anything to Rodis. Apparently without even talking to Mayol about his plans for Dulay, he took Dulay out of Mayol?s hands and moved him to the Leo Santa Cruz gym to be trained by a Mexican trainer.

Mayol and the Team that helped Dulay regain his confidence were of course devastated. They had great plans to continually improve Dulay and perhaps set him up for a future title fight.

But Rodis had other plans. He simply ignored what Mayol and his team has done and essentially fired them.

Well, like what I mentioned ?karma? happens! And, it hit Rodis hard. All the fancy stuff including the glittery fight gear that he never provided when Dulay fought at the Forum but were provided for tonight?s fight were for naught.

Tonight at the House of Blues in Boston, Mass., Dulay was badly beaten. Dardan Zenunaj (14-3-0, 11KO) crushed Dulay (10-3-0,7KO). Zenunaj dropped Dulay twice in round one and then dropped him again in round three. The fight was stopped at that point. Time: 1:50 round 3.
