TWO FILIPINO BOXERS WIN BY KNOCKOUTS IN HONG KONG

Two Filipino boxers won by impressive knockouts at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center on Saturday in the undercard of the ?Battle of Victors? in which Rex ?Wonder Kid? Tso scored a unanimous twelve round decision in a rematch against Japan?s Ryuto Maekawa which turned into a war.

It was much easier for Filipinos Jay ?Rapido? Solmiano and Rey Megrino who scored spectacular knockout wins against Chaloernporn Sawatsuk of Thailand and Jason Butar Butar of Indonesia. 29 year old super lightweight southpaw Solmiano nailed Sawatsuk with a vicious left to the body to that saw him counted out at 2:18 of the very first round. Rene Bonsubre of philboxing.com reported that the Thai fighter complained of a severe pain in his left shoulder when he got up which may have been a dislocation when he fell to the canvas.

With the win Solmiano improved his record to 19-3-1 with 15 knockouts while the 28 year old Sawatsuk dropped to 17-2 with 13 knockouts.

A former Philippine lightweight and WBO Asia Pacific champion, Solmiano is now reportedly based in Hong Kong.

Megrino, the Philippines No. 6 ranked bantamweight scored what was described as a dramatic one-punch knockout against Indonesian veteran Jason Butar Butar with a cracking overhand right that dropped the Indonesian in a heap. He was counted out at :52 seconds of the 5th round.

The South China Morning Post said the Hong Kong-based Megrino showed just how far he has come since joining the DEF Gym a year ago as he knocked out Butar-Butar with a thunderous right hook in the fifth round of his featherweight bout.

Megrino improved to 23-20-4 with 20 knockouts while Butar Butar fell to 21-19-1 with 14 knockouts.

A third Filipino, No. 10 ranked super featherweight Jerope Mercado who is from Cagayan de Oro City but fights out of Kobe, Japan lost by a 2nd round TKO against Australia?s unbeaten 26 year old Paul Fleming when Filipino referee Danrex Tapdasan stopped the scheduled eight round bout after Fleming decked Mercado who turned his back when he beat the count forcing the stoppage. With the win Fleming improved to 23-0 with 15 knockouts while Mercado dropped to 27-9-3 with 9 knockouts.
