SILVANO EYES CAREER REJUVENATION IN PALICTE REMATCH
By Rene Bonsubre, Jr. PhilBoxing.com Fri, 24 Jun 2016
Silvano.
Vergilio Silvano of the Omega Boxing Gym of Cebu will be looking to turn the tables on Aston Palicte when they meet once again June 24 at the Jurado Hall of Philippine Marine Corp, in Fort Bonifacio in Taguig City.
Silvano (21-6-1, 12KO?s) once challenged for a world title in 2013 but lost to the then reigning IBF minimumweight champ Katsunari Takayama of Japan. He would then suffer losses to contender Jonathan Taconing and Jetro Pabustan followed by the unanimous decision loss to Palicte in 2015.
?Silvano was already thinking of retirement at that point in time,? Omega Pro Sports,Intl. Vice-President Chad Ca?ares told this writer in a conversation last weekend. ?His morale was low and he was not training properly. But now, he is very motivated, and trained hard. He has a good chance.?
Silvano is only 26 years old and won his last fight against the always tough Fernando Ocon last March.
Palicte (20-2,17KO?s) is also looking for a career turnaround after losing to Junior Granados by split decision in Mexico. The 25 year old Palicte had an impressive showing in March of last year when he beat Ismael Guarnica of Mexico in Macau by 7th round TKO. Palicte and Silvano will fight for the IBF Pan Pacific junior bantamweight belt.
This Friday fight card will also feature the pro debut of 2012 London Olympian Mark Anthony Barriga against JanJan Santos in an eight rounder.
