AFTER PACQUIAO?S APOLOGY, WHO LOOK LIKE ANIMALS? By Reni M. Valenzuela PhilBoxing.com Mon, 22 Feb 2016 Who condemns who? At a tender age of fourteen, I got nearly raped, if it was not rape at all, by an adult homosexual in a teenage overnight party with my friends. Since then, I developed a homophobia for over fifteen years. I couldn?t even pee in a public men?s rest room except in its cubicles where I could lock the door. I have reasons to hate homosexuals, but I refuse. Hatred or love is a choice. God chose to love and save us despite the countless hateful things we did and continue to do. Though I so detested gays before as a teenager, but from the time I invited Christ into my heart, I learned to forgive and chose to love and have compassion for them, even more than the hypocrites in the Church. Manny Pacquiao isn?t condemning gays or LGBT. He is being taken out of context and unfairly being accused of many things due to his carelessness. The reaction is exaggerated. He sincerely apologized for his figure of speech. But why do some people continue to bash him? Now, who look like animals? ?To err is human, to forgive is divine? (Alexander Pope). What is abhorrent is that promoter Bob Arum sided with Nike and virtually joined the ?world? in condemning his cash cow. This is boxing today wherein money has become the god. Why will Pacman be bothered by criticisms if he?s on solid ground? Adhering to morals, Christian tenets or God?s standards isn?t bigotry; loving sin and condemning Pacquiao for his convictions on same-sex marriage is. Regardless of my traumatic experience, I can say, by no means let?s not discriminate or deprive LGBT every legal right bestowed upon married couples if that?s what they want. However, they should never ever be allowed to marry (civil or church wedding) otherwise that would be tantamount to state-sanctioned abomination. Why do we keep on pointing to ?model? countries which governments have no slight fear of God in the manner they enact laws? I?m glad that there are still Filipinos today in big numbers who can recognize light from darkness. ?I?d rather stand with God and be judged by the world than stand with the world and be judged by God.? renimvalenzuela@yahoo.com Click here to view a list of other articles written by Reni M.
