LOS ANGELES -- In an extremely productive harvest at the ongoing 2015 Special Olympics World Games, two Filipino athletes hauled three gold medals in their respective events.
Filbert Ca?ete of Mandaue City led the charge with a stirring performance that resulted in a golden effort in the badminton men's singles. The Mandauehanon started strong, swung his racket relentlessly from the start and never looked back.
Ca?ete looked superb with his overhead and underarm strokes, using those skills magnificently on the way to victory.
"He works tirelessly in practice and is very focused and dedicated," badminton coach Maridel Quimbo told PhilBoxing in the vernacular.
Raymund Macasaet bagged two gold medals in the 25 and 50 meter run in the men's track and field competition.
Despite uneasy conditions, with the temperature soaring to a punishing 82 degrees, Macasaet never showed signs of fatigue or discomfort.
Instead, he ran like a gazelle, leaving the rest of the runners in his wake while smiling as he reached the finished line.
More competition is in store today until the Games come to a conclusion on August 2.
Flibert Ca?ete and Jesabell Mistula, both from Mandaue City, Cebu won golds for the Philippines.
