Viloria knocks out Soto in 1; Roman Gonzalez next?
By Rich Mazon PhilBoxing.com Sun, 26 Jul 2015

Five years ago, Brian Viloria and Omar Soto fought a close 10 rounder which the Filipino-American slugger won via Split Decision at the Ynares Sports Arena in Manila.
Tonight in a rematch at the Florentine Gardens in Hollywood, California, Viloria decided not to leave the fight in the hands of the judges again and instead let his fists do the talking.
Viloria?s fists flew from the opening bell as he dropped Soto three times en route to a First Round knockout victory for the Pride of Hawaii and Ilocos Sur.
Soto, a former title contender from Mexico City, suffered two early knockdowns courtesy of Viloria?s right hook.
Soto recovered from the twin knockdowns but a left hook to the body and another left hook to the head from Viloria sent the Mexican down for the third and final time.
Referee Zachary Young did not bother to give Soto another Standing Eight Count and instead halted the fight at the 2:02 mark of the opening round, giving Viloria his 36th career win and KO number 22.
This is only Viloria?s first bout of the year, after three fights and three victories in 2014. But this is a very important bout for the former four-time world champion who is eager to make his way back to the top of the flyweight division.
Viloria is reported to be one of the names being considered to fight undefeated WBC champ Roman ?Chocolatito? Gonzales of Nicaragua in the fall in New York City as part of the just-announced Gennady Golovkin?David Lemieux Middleweight unification match which will be held at the Madison Square Garden on October 17 and sold via Pay-Per-View by HBO.
Viloria was mentored by Hall of Fame trainer, Freddie Roach in his corner, and assisted by Filipino Marvin Somodio and long-time trainer, Ruben Gomez.
