PhilBoxing.com

T'BOLI, South Cotabato -- Reigning International Boxing Organization (IBO) Inter-continental light-flyweight champion Raymund ?Tornado? Tabugon scored an early knockdown to win by a unanimous decision against Philippine Boxing Federation (PBF) flyweight champion Juan ?Punisher? Purisima in the main event of the ?Yanig sa T?boli? boxing event Sunday night at the T?boli Municipal Gym.

Tabugon earlier knocked down the flashy Purisima in the 4th round with a quick right stab. But Tabugon suffered a deep cut on his left eyebrow due an accidental headbutt in the 8th round.
It gained confidence for the Bacolod-based Purisima, who started to attack with his left jabs. But Tabugon was able to protect himself with counter punches and left-right combinations.
The 23-year old Tabugon, also World Boxing Council (WBC) Asia Boxing Council Continental flyweight title-holder decided to trade punches at close range to avoid being hit by Purisima?s quick jabs.

Judges Romeo Fordeliza and Sabas Ponpon Jr. both scored it 96-92 while judge Brembot Dulalas saw it 97-91 all in favor of Tabugon, who improved his record to 16 wins with 6 knockouts, 3 loses and one draw.

Purisima, who was coached by his elder brother and world-rated Jetli, suffered his 7th loss against 11 wins, 4 KOs and 1 draw.
?It was a good fight. I thanked the promoters and all the boxers for entertaining us,? said T?boli Municipal Mayor Dibu S. Tuan.
