NBA - Warriors hold off Mavericks, 105 - 98, to win 15th straight By Ryan Medida PhilBoxing.com Sun, 14 Dec 2014 BAY AREA, CA -- Steph Curry and the Golden State Warriors came out of the gates on fire and secured a franchise-record 15 straight wins. The Warriors outscored the Mavericks 39-18 in the opening quarter en route to a 105-98 victory at the American Airlines Center in downtown Dallas. Steph Curry finished with 29 points and eight assists while Klay Thompson added 25 points to help seal the deal. Famously known as the Warriors' Splash Brothers, Curry and Thompson combined for 9-for-14 from 3-point range and contributed 12 fast break points that quieted the Dallas home court crowd. The top-ranked Warriors defense held the highest scoring Mavericks to a low 33 percent from the field. Golden State ended the second quarter with a comfortable 22 point lead and in complete control heading into the halftime break. Steve Kerr became the only first year head coach to start 20 - 2 while his Warriors became the 12th team in the NBA history to reach that enviable 20-2 mark. The Dallas Mavericks rallied in the fourth period, out scoring The Warriors 30 - 18 courtesy of Monta Ellis' 24 points to bring Dallas within striking distance. But it proved a little to late. Dirk Nowitzki finished with 23 points and 8 boards for Dallas while Richard Jefferson, who played for the injured Chandler Parsons, scored 13 points and a game-high 13 boards. Draymond Green stepped up for the Warriors with 20 points and eight rebounds. Green, who caught a pass from the post on his left hand and in one motion turned around on a smaller defender "Jj" Jose Barea for a bucket and a foul which helped quite the crowd late in the third quarter. Harrison Barnes added 13 points and team high nine boards. The Golden State Warriors now head to New Orleans with their 15 game winning streak on the line against the emerging young talent, Anthony Davis of the Pelicans.
