NBA -- Bulls stampede Nets, 105-80

CHICAGO -- A three-day break didn't seem necessarily good for the Chicago Bulls, who looked rusty and sloppy in the first quarter of their game against the Brooklyn Nets on Wednesday night at the United Center.
But after trailing 20-8, they pulled even at 51-51 at the half and used a 13-0 third quarter run to put away the sliding Nets, who succumbed to their third straight defeat
"They came out with a lot of energy. They got us back on our heels. I liked the way we responded in the second half," Bulls head coach Tom Thibodeau said after his team's held the Nets to 12 fourth-quarter points on the way to an impressive 105-80 romp.
All Bulls starters finished in double figures in points with Derrick Rose on top with 23. Jimmy Butler had 18 and Pau Gasol tallied another double-double with 16 and 16 rebounds. Mike Dunleavy pitched in 14 and Taj Gibson flourished with 11 and six blocks. Nikola Mirotic added 10 off the bench.
Led by Deron Williams' 17 points and five assists, the Nets played without center Brook Lopez (lower back strain), Joe Johnson (flu) and Mirza Teletovic (right hip pointer). Minus their big guns, Brooklyn made only 29 of 88 field goals, a woeful 33 percent clip.
Ahead 55-53 at the 9:15 mark of the third period, things fell apart for the Nets when the Bulls uncorked unanswered points. Chicago led 77-68 entering the final quarter and led 94-73 with 5:11 left to play. (Homer D. Sayson)
