The grandson of the great Gabriel 'Flash' Elorde will have his second pro fight tonight in a card dubbed 'Boxing Kontra Droga' at the family's Elorde Sports Center in Paranaque.
The event is part of the Elorde Boxing Week, which will be highlighted by the Elorde Annual Boxing Awards this Sunday.
In the main event, Pan-Asian Boxing Association (PABA) lightweight champion Dennis Laurente will defend his title against interim champion Hero Katili of Indonesia in a 12-round scorcher sanctioned by PABA director-general Alan Kim.
The match-up is just one of the two championship battles for tonight.
Laurente had won the PABA title with a split decision victory over Thailand's Somchai Nakbalee last October 31 right at the latter's hometown. Prior to that bout, Laurente had prevailed on a unanimous decision over Rustam Nugaev at the Manny Pacquiao-Oscar Larios event at the Araneta Coliseum.
The other championship showdown pits Philippine featherweight champion Vinvin Rufino of the Johnny Elorde Stable defending his title for the first time against Victor Man-on in another 12-round offering.
An exciting undercard will feature Juan Martin 'Bai' Elorde in a special attraction for his second professional bout against Leo Albao.
The young Elorde had an impressive pro debut last February 24 right in his grandfather's hometown in Cebu, easily outpointing Joseph Mateo over four rounds at the historic 'Moment of Truth' card.
Bai Elorde did not only look impressive in that fight, but also showed flashes of the exciting fighter that Flash Elorde once was when he was still terrorizing the world's junior lightweight division, currently being lorded over by another great Filipino, Manny 'Pacman' Pacquiao.
The rest of the card pits Pederito Laurente versus Joebar Damosmog (8 rds); Rexon Flores against Arcadio Simbajon (8 rds); Rey Ramos versus Jeno Quilitar (6 rds); Jayson Rotoni versus Climer Mendoza (6 rds); and Arvin Escanilla against Jonard Abonales (4 rds).
