Fight organizers are apparently trying their best to give fight fans their money's worth, as a new and more competitive opponent for Gerry Penalosa is being put into consideration after Tomas Rojas, who was earlier slated to face the former WBC champ, lost in his last fight just a few days ago.

Penalosa, according to Box-latino, will now face Mexican Gerson Guerrero, the reigning WBO Latino superflyweight champ.

Earlier, ex-WBA superfly champ Alexander Munoz had been tabbed to face the southpaw Penalosa, but obviously the Venezuelan slugger does not fit into the scheme of things for the proposed Philippines versus Mexico mano-a-mano.

Mexican Tomas Rojas was then contacted to replace Munoz, but that was before he flubbed his chance at glory when he lost on a unanimous decision to Jose Nieves last April 22 despite knocking down the latter twice in their 10-round bout.

The 28-year-old Guerrero, nicknamed "El Nene" because of his baby-faced looks, boasts of a 31-6 win-loss record with 23 KO's. Apart from his current title, Guerrero had won the WBC Fecarbox flyweight title, Mexican flyweight title, NABF flyweight and superflyweight titles,

Guerrero, however, finds himself in the all-too-familiar reason why this rigodon of foes for Penalosa on July 2: He has an upcoming fight on May 20 underneath the Marco Antonio Barrera-Rocky Juarez bout, and a loss will mean goodbye, Gerry Penalosa.
