Promising Nonito Donaire, the NABF superflyweight champ, will make the initial defense of his title as he tackles the equally promising Cesar Lopez in a 12-round brawl on May 5 in California.
The 23-year-old Donaire is coming off a well-deserved split decision victory over Kahren Harutyunyan to snag the NABF plum last January 20 at the Pechanga Resort and Casino.
Almost four years ago, Donaire (14-1, 8 KO's) had won the WBO Asia Pacific flyweight title, but relinquished it when he decided to return to the United States.
Lopez (18-2, 4 KO's), is the former NABA flyweight and superflyweight champ.
