BLOODIED MICHAEL FARENAS OUTPOINTS BELTRAN

Despite suffering a huge cut below his right eyebrow in the very first round which bled throughout the fight thus affecting his vision, Michael Farenas managed to escape with a majority decision win against the tough Mexican veteran Fernando Beltran Jr. Farenas improved his record to W32 (KO26) L3 D3. It was a close fight all throughout.

Beltran had the better defense and was very busy from round 1 to the end but it was the Filipino southpaw who threw the cleaner and stronger shots gaining the nod of the judges. Farenas showed a lot of heart by fighting back despite the disturbing cut he suffered. The ringside doctor checked on the cut twice but the fight was allowed to continue.

According to Farenas? mentor Gerry Pe?alosa, Farenas was not able to play the game plan perfectly because of the huge cut, but did a great job by defeating his toughest opponent so far. ?He had a hard time executing our strategy because the cut distracted his vision and he had to protect the wound from being hit which may cause the stoppage of the fight. Regardless of how he won, a win is still a win and he defeated a talented Mexican warrior in the person of Beltran. It is still a great accomplishment for Mike?, Pe?alosa told this writer.

It was indeed a great night in Hawaii as all our hometown boxing heroes prevailed over their adversaries. Congratulations Brian, Mike and Denver!
