ALCOS UPSETS JANIOLA!

RP no. 4 light-flyweight Julius Alcos scored the biggest win of his young career with a giant-killing effort in beating IBF no. 11 Wyndel Janiola last night in the mainer of the "World Caliber Encounter" card at the UM Gym in Tagum City.

The 21-year-old Alcos, boxing beyond his years, used a hit-and-grab tactic behind a rock-solid defense, befuddling a rusty Janiola en route to a 98-92, 99-91, 96-94 conquest of the former national amateur standout from Cebu.

"Alcos simply outwitted Janiola. Nagulangan yung bata," said North Cotabato Governor Emmanuel Pinol, who watched at ringside.

The win improved Alcos' record to 9 wins against 2 defeats with 2 KO's, and lines him up for possible big-money offers on the horizon.

Janiola, who last saw action in June this year, dropped to 16-4 with 8 KO's.

In the chief support, Cris Besmanus of the Vic Adriano Stable retained his Philippine Boxing Federation superbantam title with a stirring 7th-round KO over Rolan Estancia.

More to come....
