Even the presence of superstar Manny Pacquiao could not sway Lady Luck in his favor this time.

Filipino Eriberto "Yukka" Gejon failed in his attempt to wrest the World Boxing Association minimumweight crown after he absorbed a split technical decision to reigning titlist Yutaka Niida Sunday evening at the Yokohama Arena.

The bout was stopped in the 10th round after it was ruled Gejon was no longer fit to continue following a cut suffered after an accidental clash of heads.

The fight then went to the scorecard, where Niida barely won by the slimmest of margins from a Thai and Korean judge, while Gejon was comfortably ahead in the card of the Panamanian judge.

Wan Soo-Yuh of Korea and Pinit Prayadsab of Thailand both gave Niida a 96-95 winning scores, while Panama's Medardo Villalobos had Gejon the winner via 97-93 score.
