Manila---Almario Marlon Quiroz Bernardino Jr., a certified an online Arena Grandmaster, is set to represent the Philippines in the 24th ASEAN + Age Group Chess Championships scheduled on August 7 to 17 at Tampines Hub in Singapore.

The 49-year-old standout from Quezon City/Mandaluyong City expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to compete in the prestigious ASEAN + tournament.

"I would like to thank the National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) headed by Chairman/ President Cong. Prospero Pichay Jr., Bureau of Customs (BOC) Commissioner Ariel Nepomuceno , Kap. Marlon Manalo and Sir Ignatius Leong, for supporting me in this tournament," said Bernardino, a veteran sportswriter and radio commentator.

"I'm hoping to earn some ELO rating points, " added Bernardino, who hails from Binalonan, Pangasinan.
