MARLON “Nightmare” Tapales really shocked the world as he beat former undefeated Murodjon Akhmadaliev of Uzbekistan by split decision to win the IBF World and WBA Super World super bantamweight titles at the Boeing Center at Tech Port in San Antonio.
The 31-year-old Tapales landed more jabs and punches to earn scores of 115-113 from two judges Sergio Caiz and Jose Robert Torres. The other judge Javier Alvarez saw it 110-118 in favor of Akhamadaliev.
Tapales is now a two division world champion, He first won the World Boxing Organization world bantamweight champion when he knocked out Panya Uthok* of Thailand in the 11th round last July 2016,
Tapales, who is already from the Sanman Boxing Promotion, has now 37 wins with three loses with 19KOs) while Akhamadaliev suffered his first setback after 11 wins with eight knockouts.
